An awareness program was organized by the doctors of Jaipur on World Osteoporosis Day on Wednesday. It spread awareness among Indian women about common health problems and lack of preventive lifestyle which lead to diseases. In line with this year’s theme, Jaipur doctors emphasized on ‘Take care of bone health’ and what measures should be taken to increase bone density through some lifestyle modifications. The right medications, a healthy diet, and exercise can help prevent bone loss or strengthen weak bones. To reduce the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women, post-menopausal self-examination should be done.

Regarding this, Dr. Amit Sharma said that osteoporosis reduces the density of bones, due to which the bones become weak and brittle. Even mild stress such as bending over or coughing can cause a fracture. Osteoporosis-related fractures are most commonly seen in the hip, wrist, or spine. Osteoporosis affects both men and women, but women are more prone to the disease, especially women who are older and have entered menopause. There are usually no symptoms in the early stages of bone loss.

We have seen an increase in osteoporosis cases due to the restricted sedentary lifestyle during the pandemic. Earlier this disease was seen at a very old age, but is seen in patients suffering from lifestyle diseases in the early years of old age. Women are more affected than men due to lower levels of sex hormones in women with age, low intake of calcium. Post-menopausal women should take adequate calcium through natural diet, medicines, vitamin D and other medicines for osteoporosis under the direction of specialists. Regular exercise, proper muscle care, and timely treatment are beneficial for osteoporosis patients.
Dr. Amit told that senior citizens should take care of many things at home to avoid falling and fracture in the house, in which keep the light of medium light from room to bathroom at night, bathroom and floor in the house should not be wet, Avoid stumbling blocks, use wiring kit and goggles regularly, and exercise regularly.
