- Australian legend Brett Lee’s big statement before the Super-12 stage
- India’s KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami will perform well
Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee’s big statement has come before the Super-12 phase. He will keep an eye on the two players of Team India. The veteran believes that India’s KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami can become the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker respectively in the Super-12 stage of the T20 World Cup.
KL Rahul was in excellent form during the IPL and he finished third in the list of highest run scorers. His Punjab Kings teammate Shami has bowled quite well in the recent past, including a stellar performance in the warm-up match against England.
Because of this, India is a strong contender for the title
Brett Lee wrote in a column for the International Cricket Council (ICC), “I think India is probably a strong contender for the title with the top four or five batsmen and bowling attack. Looking at the performance of the last few months, in my view KL Rahul will be the top scorer of the tournament and Mohammed Shami will be the highest wicket taker.
“So if they can perform as expected and India have the top scorers and top wicket takers, it will be a good start,” he said. Lee also believes that teams from the Indian sub-continent will do well in UAE conditions.
Talking about Australia, he said that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s behavior in the IPL has shaken David Warner’s confidence, but the opener is a big stage player and his role will be crucial in Australia’s success in the T20 World Cup.
Sunrisers dropped Warner from the captaincy in the first leg of this year’s IPL and was dropped from the playing XI after a mediocre performance in the first two matches when the season resumed in the UAE.
…but also hope from Australia
Brett Lee, on the other hand, hopes that Australia will be able to win their maiden T20 World title. Australia will start their campaign against South Africa on Saturday.
“We haven’t had much success in this format,” Lee said. Now is the time to change that and we have a team that can win the title. It will not be easy though, especially when you see how strong the teams of England, India and New Zealand are.
‘Warner performs well on the big stage’
He said, ‘But this Australian team is full of talent and in my view David Warner will be important. I would like to say that he has saved runs for the upcoming matches. He was treated very harshly in the IPL and this would have shaken his confidence to some extent, but he performs well on the big stage. Everything will be fine from here because your level is permanent.
Lee, who has played 76 Tests and 221 One Day Internationals for his country, said that apart from Warner, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will do well for Australia.
